Sierra and Bianca Casady of CocoRosie came to the studio after being asked to create music for Robert Wilson's Nordic play Edda.
Over a couple of sessions David and CocoRosie worked closely to put together a piece of music called "Dark Fairy." It was mainly constructed from a collection of previous recording sessions, improvisations, and outtakes that they brought to the studio, along with some additional new recordings. David wrote and performed the main Hammered Dulcimer part for the piece of music.
The resulting piece was a short instrumental with a lot of impact.
The Hammered Dulcimer was recorded at Ishikawa Studios, along with additional percussion. Synthetic bass elements were added to complete the arrangement.
David mixed the piece at Ishikawa Studios, and CocoRosie gave their approval. The piece found its way into the play, alongside music from Arvo Pärt and other CocoRosie pieces.
